{Testing of ICS at CRT/N}

In order to respond the current trend in biomass energy use, or more specifically improved cook stove, the technical testing of the stoves disseminated by CRT/N was performed in conjuction with the proposed stove testing and benchmarking project done by the national networks as post training activities on "Advance Training on ICS Performance Test and Monitoring" held on 6-12 June, 2008 at Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
The water boiling test was conducted in two stoves: namely two pothole raised type ICS with grate and Traditional Three stone Fire.
From the test, it was found out that the thermal efficiency of the ICS was 21% for cold start and 24% for hot start and 46% for the low power shimmering test. For the Traditional Three Stone Fire the thermal efficiency of the stove was 15% for cold start, 16% hot start and 25% for the low power shimmering test.
The specific fuel wood consumption was almost double for Traditional Three Stone Fire Stove in comparison to the ICS. The fire power for both the stove was found to be the same.
