Call for Proposals
Centre for Rural Technology, Nepal (CRT/N) announces a research grant programme for students of Bachelors and Masters of different institutions in Nepal. CRT/N is a professional non-governmental organization involved in developing and promoting appropriate/rural technologies effective in improving livelihood of the rural mass.
Some of the programs of CRT/N are National Biomass Program, Improved Water Mill Program, Research and development of various technologies. Besides these, CRT/N has also been managing two networking programs: Action Program for Strengthening Improved Cookstove Network in Nepal and Gender, Energy and Water Network with support from various international organizations.
Action Program for Strengthening Improved Cookstove Network in Nepal (supported by ARECOP)
Action Programme for Strengthening Improved Cookstove Network in Nepal is one of the Networking Program supported by Asia Regional Cookstove Program (ARECOP), Indonesia. The objective of the programme is to establish an efficient and effective NGO Network in Nepal to reduce health impact of cook stove users; to prevent ecological degradation through promotion of ICS; to strengthen the collaboration of NGOs, GOs and other institutions and also to complement on the efforts initiated by National ICS Programme of Nepal Government. CRT/N as the Country Contact Point has been implementing this programme with support from ARECOP, Indonesia.
The program has been supporting the students to carry out various researches and development works in field of ICS since past few years. This year again Action Programme for Strengthening Improved Cookstove Network announces Research Grant Support for the students of Masters and Bachelors level. The selection committee will give priority to the proposal that focus on following topics.
- Comparative study on fuelwood consumption of various designs of stoves
- Testing and improvement of biomass stoves
- Study on barriers of implementation of Cook stove program in Nepal
- Study of Indoor Air Pollution resulted due to stoves and its health implications

Gender, Energy and Water Network
CRT/N as the National Focal Point has been coordinating Gender, Energy and Water Network (GEWNet) in Nepal with support from International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy (ENERGIA), Netherlands. The objective of the network is to address genders gaps via promoting equitable control and decision making in utilization and management of energy and water. It aims to cover all institutions working on Gender, Energy and Water in Nepal. GEWNet announces research and analysis support to the Masters and Bachelors level students willing to work on gender and energy issues. Research topics may cover a wide range of gender and energy related issues that include but are not limited to below mentioned topics.
- Performance study of energy technologies (like Improved Water Mill and Improved Cook stove) and its impact on rural women
- Impact study of energy technologies using gender tools
- Indigenous technologies that ease life of women
- Women entrepreneurship development through promotion of energy technologies
- Review on energy policies of Nepal and gender concerns in it
