{Support for organizations with ICS initiatives} 2006-01-03

The ICS Network Secretariat provides support to local NGOs and CBOs that may be interested and willing to start ICS activities in their working areas. This support is in the form of small fund as well as capacity building programs like training to the staff of those organizations in order to assist them in starting with their new initiatives.

Support to Nepal Red Cross Society,  ( NRCS) Palpa

ICS Network, CRT/N has planned to support NRCS to undertake  a 6 months project on "Promotion of Kitchen Management Concept" in 2 VDCs Piladanda and Humin in Palpa district. The project will start from September  2005 onwards. The main objective of this project is to  promote the concept of kitchen management  and awareness development of the communities in the adoption of the concept covering all 292 households in those VDCs.

Support for Monitoring of ICS

Various ICS programs had been implemented in the past but very few programs had made an effort to reevaluate the status of ICS installed once the program phases out. Therefore, to instigate the trend, ICS Network had undertaken an initiative to monitor the past ICS programs. In this regard, two districts where CRT/N had implemented ICS programs in the past, namely Lamjung and Chitwan, were selected for monitoring and evaluation of ICS installed by past programs.

Support to Rural Environment and Development Association ( REDA), Dhading

 REDA, a local NGO based in Dhading district, had organised  a Promoters’ Training from 21 – 27 June 2003. The district is also among one of the new program districts of National ICS Program. Total of 12 participants have been trained. Therefore, the trained manpower have also been tied up with National ICS Program.   ICS Network had supported REDA for monitoring of the training.

Support to Ghatta ( Improved Water Mills)  Owners

Two “Ghatta” (Water Mill) Owners’ Association of Kavre and Makawanpur districts, the program areas of CRT/N  were supported to conduct Promoters’ Training, with an objective to integrate ICS promotion along with other energy related programs.

The training in Makawanpur was conducted from 30 May – 6 June 2002. Similarly, training in Kavre was conducted from 22 – 30 June 2002. In both the districts, CRT/N field  technicians,  have been taking  up the responsibility of monitoring the ICS installed at regular basis.

Support to Self Nepal ( Ilam)

SELF-Nepal, a local NGO of Ilam district is a facilitating organization of District ICS Network of Ilam. Self Nepal had organized a Promoters’ training during the year 2002. CRT/N had provided a resource persons and ICS Network had supported  for monitoring of the training from August 16-22, 2002.

Ilam district did not have any trained promoters before this training. Therefore, other members of District ICS Network of Ilam also benefited from the trained promoters as they used them to install ICS in their program areas also.

Support to  Women Self Reliant Centre (WOSEC)

WOSEC, with support from Canadian Cooperation Office (CCO), had conducted training on "Construction and Operation of Improved Cooking Stove (ICS)" at Newarpani, Basamadi VDC 1 of Makawanpur district. The training was conducted from August 26- 2 September 2001. Total of 12 women (10 local women and 2 staff of WOSEC) participated in the training. The ICS Network Secretariat had provided monitoring support to the Promoters' training conducted by WOSEC which was done after the training.
