{Awareness creation through wide publicity and mass communication} 2005-12-18
The ICS Network supports publicity and mass communication activities related to ICS programs and technologies by various district networks and DDCs/VDCs. These types of awareness programs are absolutely essential for the sustainability of the ICS program as they generate demand from the target public. Subsequently, the ICS program can be implemented after the demand has arisen from there.
Environment Camp for Conservation Awareness (ECCA), one of the network members, has been implementing ICS programs integrating it with its social awareness and community development activities. ECCA forms children environment groups and these groups create awareness in their community. The children are trained by the counselors (volunteers) of ECCA. Three-day orientation training was conducted from 10 - 12 August 2001 for these counselors at Environment Resource Centre at Sipadol, Bhaktapur in joint collaboration of ICS Network Secretariat with ECCA.
The Network Secretariat provided resource persons and training materials for the training. The training focused on providing basic skills and knowledge on ICS, kitchen management along with waste management. During the three-day training, the participants were oriented on the basic concept of ICS, construction and operation steps of ICS, trouble shooting and maintenance as well as practical hand-on training on construction of ICS.
The district networks may also be involved in the process of mass communication and awareness generation on ICS in their respective districts.
